The Alexandra Bridge Replacement addresses the renewal of an iconic civic link at the heart of Canada’s National Capital. For over 120 years, the 575-metre, five-span steel truss bridge has defined the Ottawa–Gatineau skyline, connecting Kìwekì Point with the Canadian Museum of History. Located on unceded, ancestral Algonquin territory, the bridge sits within a landscape of exceptional archaeological and cultural significance. The project was formative in shaping my approach to civic and infrastructural architecture, reinforcing the belief that contemporary interventions carry cultural responsibility and must respond sensitively to history, place and collective memory. The design of the new bridge, an undulating hybrid-arch-beam, is inspired by nature, particularly the American Eel (Pimisi) and the dynamic presence of the river.
